MEET HANNAH WILLEMSEN

Hannah Willemsen is a nutrition coach, author of the “Hormon Food” book series, host of the “Iss Dich gesund” (Eat Yourself Healthy) podcast, and a mother of two.

It was during her first pregnancy that Hannah first began exploring the world of nutrition. She wanted to ensure that both she and her baby were well-supplied with all the essential nutrients they needed. This journey led her to discover the powerful benefits of Omega-3. From that moment on, maintaining a sufficient supply of Omega-3 fatty acids became an essential and permanent part of daily life for her and her family.

More Information

In this interview, Hannah shares what her favorite breakfast looks like, her secret tips for sneaking Omega-3 into her kids’ meals, and how she managed to achieve an optimal Omega-6/3 ratio of $4:1$.

Dear Hannah, I can imagine that being a devoted mother and an entrepreneur can get quite turbulent at times. Would you like to share with us what a typical day looks like for you?

Waking the kids, preparing breakfast, and getting them off to school and daycare—usually at the very last minute! Then I start working; I’m lucky enough to be able to work from home, which makes organizing everything with the kids so much easier. I conduct nutrition coaching sessions, develop recipes, or prepare workshops. In the afternoon, I pick up the kids, and we have a small snack along with their KIDS Jellys. After that, the kids have their usual activities like sports, singing, or guitar, and then it’s already time for dinner.

As a mom (and naturally as a dad too), you only want the best for your children. That starts with what’s on their plate. So, what does breakfast or lunch look like for your two kids?

I always try to find a healthy balance and cover as many nutrients as possible. Fruit and vegetables are on the menu every day—whether as a snack, a soup, or a side dish. I often stir the Omega 3 Total into salads, juices, or smoothies, and the kids regularly ask for their ‘gummies’ (they mean the Omega-3 KIDS Jellys). They’re excited about getting a little ‘treat,’ and I’m happy knowing they’re getting something healthy—and that it’s so easy to do.

So, does that mean your children strictly take the Jellys, and they both like them?

Especially my daughter, Leni, loves the Jellys. My son wasn’t quite sold on them at first, so I just started adding the Omega 3 Total directly into his food. These days, he actually enjoys the Jellys too! I usually stir the oil into pasta or, on the weekends, into their breakfast juice.

And what about you and your husband? Which Omega-3 products do you take?

We alternate between the Omega-3 Total and the Omega-3 Vegan oil. There is no fixed pattern, but after a while—usually 2 or 3 months—we feel like switching it up. I think it’s a great combination, especially because of the balance between the EPA and DHA levels.

It sounds like your husband is right on board with you. Did you have to convince him about Omega-3?

Armin knows that I’ve been dedicated to healthy nutrition for many years and that it’s a project close to my heart. He trusts me completely in that regard. When it comes to nutrition and nutrients, I’m the expert in the Willemsen household! But of course, it took a little while at the beginning before he was fully convinced.

That sounds like a great tip that we’ll definitely be adopting! May I also ask if you’ve already done a fatty acid analysis?

Yes, two tests so far. The first about a year ago, the second five months later… Luckily, I was able to improve my Omega-6/3 ratio. And that’s despite the fact that I still forget to take the oil every now and then.

Thanks for being so honest! I can completely relate to that. Do you have a tip for handling this?

To be honest, I just take two spoonfuls the next day—essentially a double dose. That way, on balance, I still average 2,000 mg of Omega-3 per day. It’s how I reached my healthy Omega-6/3 ratio, and it’s what I’m doing to make sure I maintain it.

So, what does an ideal Omega-6/3 ratio look like? And how were you able to achieve it?

A good Omega-6/3 ratio is around $3:1$. Nowadays, the average ratio is as high as $20:1$, which really shocked me when I first found out. My first result was $6:1$, but the follow-up test was all the more rewarding. Thanks to taking one spoonful daily—which provides 2,000 mg of Omega-3—of NORSAN Omega-3 oil, I was able to improve my ratio to 4:1 .

That really is a fantastic result! One last question: how do you personally take the Omega-3 Total or Omega-3 Vegan?

Many of my clients prefer taking it ‘neat’ because they find the NORSAN oil so delicious. Personally, I like to mix it into my morning muesli. Topped with plenty of goodies and fresh fruit, it’s not just a tasty start to the day, but a healthy one too.

Thank you so much for your time, Hannah. We wish you and your family all the best and continued good health!
